JAMMU, Jul 27: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Jammu has filed a charge-sheet against a fraudster accused of duping job aspirants by issuing forged appointment orders of J&K Bank and collecting money from them on the false promise of securing employment.
The charge-sheet has been presented before the Court of the Special Mobile Magistrate (Passenger Tax), Jammu, against Ghulam Rasool Wani, son of Mohammad Asgar Wani, a resident of Parisabad Pora, Budgam, in connection with FIR No. 05/2022 registered under Sections 420, 465 and 468 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to Crime Branch officials, the case was registered following a written complaint filed by Sandeep Kumar, who alleged that in 2019 the accused promised to secure his appointment as a Banking Attendant in J&K Bank. Trusting the assurance, the complainant and another victim allegedly paid a total of ₹2 lakh to the accused, including ₹1 lakh in cash and ₹1 lakh through cheque. The accused also collected their educational certificates and other personal documents before handing over photocopies of purported appointment orders and a selection list, claiming they had been selected for the posts.
During the investigation, Crime Branch found that the appointment orders and selection documents supplied by the accused were fake and forged. Investigators also established that the accused had received the cheated amount in his bank account. Further verification revealed that he was allegedly involved in several similar recruitment fraud cases registered with Crime Branch Jammu, Crime Branch Kashmir, and Cyber Police Kashmir.
A Crime Branch official said, “The investigation was conducted on the basis of oral, documentary, electronic and circumstantial evidence. After collecting sufficient material, the charge-sheet under Section 173 Cr.PC has been filed before the competent court for judicial determination. We advise job seekers to verify recruitment notifications only through official sources and not to pay money to anyone on the promise of employment.”
The official further appealed to the public to remain vigilant against recruitment and other economic frauds. Citizens have been urged to report such incidents to the SSP, Crime Branch EOW Jammu. Victims of economic fraud can also submit complaints through the official email of the Crime Branch or contact its dedicated helpline for assistance.
The Crime Branch reiterated that strict legal action would continue against those involved in employment scams and financial frauds to safeguard the interests of job aspirants and maintain public confidence in the recruitment process.
