KATRA, Aug 24: An awareness session on the theme “Cyber Hygiene and Cybersecurity” was conducted at Government Degree College (GDC) Katra on 24th August 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Sajaad Iqbal Khan, Assistant Professor, GDC Katra, who is also a Cyber First Responder and Master Trainer.

The awareness programme was organized in collaboration with 13C, IIT Jammu, CyberPeace, and the Reform and Rehabilitation Foundation, with support from Google.org. The session witnessed the participation of around 100 participants, including faculty members and students of the college.

The programme commenced with welcome remarks by Prof. Sheikha Bhasin, who warmly welcomed the resource person and participants and highlighted the importance of organizing such awareness programmes in the present digital age.

In her address, Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the Worthy Principal of the college emphasized the growing importance of cybersecurity and stated that cyber safety has become a necessity for everyone in today’s increasingly digital world. The Principal encouraged the participants to remain vigilant and adopt safe and responsible digital practices in their day-to-day lives.

During the session, Dr. Sajaad Iqbal Khan sensitized the participants about the importance of maintaining proper cyber hygiene, protecting personal information, recognizing online threats, and adopting essential cybersecurity practices to ensure a safer digital environment. The interactive session enabled participants to gain valuable insights into responsible and secure use of digital technologies.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Harmeet Kour, Assistant Professor of Punjabi, who expressed gratitude to the collaborating organizations, the resource person, the Principal, faculty members, and all participants for making the awareness session a meaningful and successful event.
