Army organises awareness lectures on World No Tobacco Day at Samote and Budhal

POONCH/RAJOURI,  May 30: On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, the Indian Army organised awareness lectures at Government Higher Secondary School Samote, District Rajouri and Budhal, District Poonch, on 30 May 2026. The events aimed to educate students, youth and the local populace about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption and to promote a healthy, disciplined and tobacco-free lifestyle.

During the sessions, participants were sensitised about various forms of tobacco consumption, including smoking, chewing tobacco and nicotine addiction, along with their adverse impact on physical and mental health. Speakers highlighted the serious health risks associated with tobacco use, including cancer, respiratory disorders, cardiovascular diseases and other life-threatening ailments. The lectures also focused on the social and economic consequences of tobacco addiction on individuals, families and communities.

Special emphasis was laid on preventive measures, government initiatives, available support systems for quitting tobacco and the importance of making informed lifestyle choices. The programmes were conducted through interactive discussions, informative presentations and real-life examples, which generated keen interest and active participation among students, local residents, youth and prominent citizens.

The events concluded with a pledge by all participants to refrain from tobacco use, encourage others to adopt healthy habits and spread awareness among their peers and community members. Teachers, students and local residents expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for organising the awareness programmes and appreciated its continued efforts towards the welfare and well-being of the local population.

The initiative strengthened awareness among the youth and local community, while further reinforcing the positive bond between the Indian Army and the people.
