JAMMU, Oct 31: Senior National Conference leader and Provincial President Jammu, Advocate Rattan Lal Gupta, said that the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference represents a legacy of sacrifices, dedication, democratic struggle, secularism and unity, asserting that the party has consistently worked to safeguard the political, social and economic rights of the people.
Gupta said that generations of National Conference leaders and workers had made significant sacrifices for the dignity, unity and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that the party had always stood for communal harmony, brotherhood, secularism and democratic values, irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
Targeting the BJP, Gupta alleged that its political approach was aimed at weakening Jammu and Kashmir politically and undermining the country’s secular and democratic foundations. He accused the party of pursuing divisive politics and creating political uncertainty instead of strengthening democratic institutions and addressing public concerns.
He further claimed that continued uncertainty over the restoration of full statehood had adversely affected public confidence and democratic aspirations in Jammu and Kashmir. He also criticised what he described as the BJP’s role in Maharashtra and West Bengal, alleging that certain developments had raised concerns about democratic and constitutional principles.
Gupta asserted that the National Conference, under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, remained committed to protecting the interests of all regions and communities, strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring equitable and inclusive development.
He appealed to the people, particularly the youth, to recognise the historical contributions of the National Conference and remain committed to unity, brotherhood and democratic values.
“National Conference believes in unity, brotherhood, democracy and inclusive development. No conspiracy can weaken a party whose strength lies in the trust, sacrifices and unwavering support of the people. Jammu and Kashmir and the nation need unity, development and constitutional justice, not political polarisation and confrontation,” Gupta said.
He added that India’s strength lies in its diversity and in safeguarding the democratic rights of its people.
