JAMMU, May 30: In a significant step towards sustainable community development and post-flood rehabilitation, the Centre for Youth Development and Activities (CYDA India) inaugurated and installed a Solar-Powered Water Tower (Jal Minar) at Government Middle School, Mishriwala, Jammu, on Friday.
The initiative, supported by ASK Foundation and implemented by CYDA India in collaboration with the District Administration, aims to ensure access to safe, clean and sustainable drinking water for students and the local community.
The project represents a transition from immediate flood relief efforts to long-term resilience and rehabilitation. Following support provided to flood-affected communities during emergency situations, ASK Foundation and CYDA India have now focused on strengthening essential infrastructure and improving access to basic services through sustainable interventions.
The newly installed Solar Jal Minar is an eco-friendly water supply system that operates on renewable solar energy. The system pumps and stores water in an elevated tank, enabling gravity-based distribution and ensuring a reliable water supply while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources. The initiative is expected to provide a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution for the school and surrounding community.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and community representatives. Among those present were SHO Kana Chak, Adnan Manzoor, Vice Principal Arti, senior teacher Dr. Alka Sharma, Sarpanch Pallavi Varma, and In-charge Government Middle School Mishriwala, Rubila Uppal.
Speaking on the occasion, the dignitaries appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of providing safe drinking water facilities in educational institutions. They noted that access to clean water plays a crucial role in improving student health, hygiene, attendance, and overall academic performance.
Sarpanch Pallavi Varma described the project as a valuable contribution towards strengthening rural infrastructure and enhancing community welfare. The school administration also expressed gratitude to the supporting organizations for selecting the institution for the installation of the solar-powered facility.
The event witnessed active participation from teachers, students, local residents, and representatives of CYDA India. Senior Reporter Shubham Kottwal was also present on the occasion, helping bring attention to the significance of sustainable community-based interventions.
