KATHUA, Aug 21: Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua organised an awareness lecture on the important social cause of eye donation on the theme “Donate Eyes – Gift Sight and Transform Lives.” The programme was aimed at creating awareness among students about the importance of eye donation and encouraging them to contribute towards giving the gift of sight to those in need.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Shivani Sharma, Senior Resident, Department of Ophthalmology, Government Medical College, Kathua, who sensitised the participants about the significance of eye donation and dispelled common myths and misconceptions associated with the process. She explained how eye donation can help restore vision and bring hope and dignity to people suffering from visual impairment.
Dr. Sharma also highlighted the need for greater public awareness and community participation in eye donation. She encouraged students to share the message with their families and communities and become ambassadors of this noble social cause.
Around 100 students participated in the awareness programme, along with faculty members of the college. The interactive session provided the participants an opportunity to seek clarification on various aspects of eye donation and understand its social and humanitarian importance.
