Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust announces special religious programmes
JAMMU, Jul 10: Highlighting the spiritual importance of the holy month of Shravan, Pawan Kumar Shastri, President of the Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust, Jammu/Haridwar, on Friday said that Shravan is regarded as the most sacred month in the Vedic Sanatan tradition and is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
Addressing a press conference, Shastri said that this year’s Shravan month holds special religious significance as it will witness six Shravan Somvars falling on July 20, July 27, August 3, August 10, August 17 and August 24.
He said Mondays during Shravan are especially auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva, while other days of the week are dedicated to different deities, including Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Durga, Shani Dev and Surya Dev.
Explaining the significance of the month, Shastri said Shravan coincides with the monsoon season, bringing environmental rejuvenation, cleaner air, fertile land and favourable conditions for agriculture. Spiritually, he said, the month commemorates the divine event of Samudra Manthan, during which Lord Shiva consumed the deadly Halahala poison to protect the universe, symbolising supreme compassion and sacrifice.
He further stated that according to Hindu belief, Lord Vishnu enters Yog Nidra during Shravan while Lord Shiva assumes the responsibility of protecting the universe. Referring to the Shiva Purana, Shastri said Lord Shiva is revered as the deity most pleased by the offering of sacred water through Jal Abhishek. He also highlighted the devotion of Rishi Markandeya, whose unwavering penance earned him the blessings of Lord Shiva and the boon of immortality.
On the occasion, Shastri released two spiritual publications titled “Shravan Maas Mein Rudra Abhishek Ka Mahatva” and “Shree Hanuman Chalisa”, aimed at spreading awareness about Sanatan Dharma and encouraging devotional practices.
Speaking on the occasion, Raj Kumar Gupta, Vice-President of the Trust, said the organisation has been actively promoting spiritual awareness and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage through religious literature and community initiatives.
The Trust also announced elaborate arrangements for Shravan celebrations at its Haridwar Yatri Bhawan from July 16 to August 28, 2026, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. During the period, daily religious rituals and 11 Rudra Abhisheks will be performed by learned priests for universal peace and the well-being of devotees. Those wishing to participate in Rudra Paath and Rudra Abhishek can register at the Trust’s offices in Jammu or Haridwar. The rituals will also be streamed live on the Trust’s official Facebook page.
The press conference was also attended by Raj Kumar Gupta, Vice-President, Gurdas Sharma, General Secretary-cum-Treasurer, and other members of the Trust.
