KHOUR, Jul 10: SDM Khour, Satish Sharma, has been honoured by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, at Sundarbani Brigade in recognition of his exemplary administrative leadership and outstanding contribution during Operation Sindoor.
During the operation, Sharma played a key role in the safe evacuation of civilians from 53 border villages located in vulnerable areas.
Through meticulous planning and effective coordination, he ensured the formation of Village Action Teams (VATs), strengthening of medical and transport infrastructure, and establishment of relief camps equipped with food, sanitation, and healthcare facilities. A 24×7 Control Room was also set up to facilitate real-time coordination among various agencies.
Under his leadership, more than 73,000 people were safely evacuated, while around 17,000 were accommodated in designated relief camps. Significantly, there was no loss of civilian life in Khour Sub-Division during the crisis.
Sharma remained actively present in the field throughout the operation, visiting sensitive and high-risk areas despite shelling, road blockages, and communication disruptions. His timely decisions and proactive approach are credited with saving numerous lives, including those of residents whose homes were later severely damaged.
Following the evacuation, he worked closely with the Army and civil administration to conduct damage assessments and ensure the timely disbursement of government compensation to affected families.
The recognition by the Chief of the Army Staff underscores Sharma’s dedication, courage, and exceptional commitment to public service during one of the most challenging situations faced by the border population.
