GIDDARBAHA, Jun 15: In an important initiative aimed at creating awareness about women’s safety and workplace dignity, GGS College of Management and Technology organized a special awareness lecture on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act for its faculty members and students. GGS College of Management and Technology, a co-educational institution where more than 80 % of the students are girls, conducted the programme in compliance with directions issued by the Punjab Police and the Director General of Police (DGP), Punjab.
The awareness session was delivered by Senior Constables Kamalpreet Kaur and Amarjeet Kaur from Giddarbaha Police Station.
Addressing the gathering, the police officials highlighted the key provisions of the POSH Act and emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe and respectful environment for women in educational institutions and workplaces.
They informed students and faculty members about various legal safeguards available to women against harassment and misconduct. During the session, the officers advised that any girl or woman facing harassment, discrimination, or any form of sexual misconduct at the workplace should immediately report the matter to the nearest police station.
They also encouraged participants to seek assistance through the emergency helpline number 112, which provides round-the-clock support in emergency situations. The speakers stressed that awareness and timely reporting play a crucial role in preventing harassment and ensuring justice for victims.
They urged students to remain vigilant, know their rights, and support a culture of mutual respect and gender equality. The interactive lecture witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students, who actively engaged with the speakers and sought clarification on various aspects of the law and safety measures.
The session proved to be highly informative and beneficial, helping attendees gain a better understanding of their rights and the mechanisms available for addressing grievances.
Dr. R.K. Uppal appreciated the efforts of the police department in conducting the awareness programme and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe, secure, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Faculty members and students, particularly the girl students, highly appreciated the lecture and described it as both enlightening and empowering.
