KARGIL, Jun 8: On the occasion of World Bicycle Day/Sunday on Cycle, the Sports Authority of India Training Centre (STC) Kargil organized a grand cycling event today with great enthusiasm and zeal under the directions of the Sports Authority of India Headquarters and Regional Centre Chandigarh. The event was conducted as part of the nationwide celebration of World Bicycle Day being observed across India.
The programme was graced by Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon as the Chief Guest, while Deputy Commissioner/CEO Kargil, Rakesh Kumar IAS attended as the Guest of Honour.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion were ADDC Kargil Ghulam Mohd, Tehsildar Kargil Ayaz Ahmad, DySP Tundup Dorjey, CPO Kargil Kacho Mohd Hussain, and DYSSO Kargil Abid Ali.
During the event, STC Incharge Ghulam Mustafa, Boxing Coach and Mohd Ali, and Taekwondo Coach elaborated on the importance and objectives of celebrating World Bicycle Day. They emphasized the importance of using bicycles as an eco-friendly and healthy mode of transportation. They also requested the Honourable CEC and Deputy Commissioner Kargil to observe one day every week as a “Traffic-Free Day” in Kargil town to promote cycling culture and environmental awareness.
More than 300 participants enthusiastically took part in the programme. Participants included students from the Physical Education Department of University of Ladakh Kargil Campus, various schools, Down Hill Kargil Club, and athletes of STC Kargil.
STC Kargil expressed gratitude to the Kargil Administration and all supporting departments including Medical Department, PHE Department, Municipal Committee, Ladakh Police, and Education Department for their valuable support in making the event successful.
Special thanks were also extended to Prof. Mehboob Ali, Incharge Administration, Kargil Campus, University of Ladakh, for his continuous support and cooperation, as well as Down Hill Kargil Club for their active participation and contribution to the programme.
