SRINAGAR, May 31 (Agencies): Amid the festivities of Eid-ul-Adha, a growing number of undergraduate aspirants in Kashmir are facing the possibility of missing admission deadlines, prompting a formal appeal to college authorities for an extension.
The final dates for the submission of online application forms at several institutions — May 27 to 30 — coincided with the peak of Eid celebrations, leaving many students occupied with family and religious commitments.
Officials in the education sector said internet cafés and digital access centres remained closed during the period, further hampering the ability of applicants, particularly those from remote areas, to complete their online submissions.
In a representation addressed to the authorities and shared with Kashmir News Service (KNS), an applicant highlighted the “urgent need” to extend the admission deadline.
“A large number of deserving students are facing the risk of missing out on their higher education opportunities due to circumstances beyond their control,” the representation stated.
The appeal urged college administrations to extend the deadline for submission of admission forms by at least one week to ensure a fair and inclusive admission process for all candidates.
Speaking to KNS, Director Colleges, Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Sheikh Aijaz Bashir, said the admission dates had already been extended and that it was not possible to grant another extension.Daily news updates
However, he added that a spot round, or spot admission process, could provide a second opportunity for candidates who missed earlier rounds or were not allotted seats.
