Calls for ground-level development, accountability and resolution of public grievances
DEVSAR (KULGAM), Oct 27: Socio-political activist Zulfikar Razatullah on Tuesday criticised the National Conference (NC)-led government over what he described as the failure to fulfil several promises made in its election manifesto, calling for visible development, greater accountability and concrete action on public grievances.
Addressing a mega workers’ convention at Town Hall, Devsar, in Kulgam district, Razatullah said the performance of any government should be assessed on the basis of its work on the ground rather than public announcements and claims on social media.
He alleged that several electoral promises remained unfulfilled and said people were still waiting for tangible improvements in areas directly affecting their daily lives. He emphasised that development must translate into better public services, improved infrastructure and effective resolution of people’s problems.
“Development must be visible on the ground, not limited to announcements and social media claims,” was the central message of his address.
Razatullah said the convention aimed to strengthen grassroots engagement, listen to public grievances and bring unresolved local issues into the political discourse.
He stressed that public representatives must remain accountable to the people and ensure that assurances made during elections are translated into practical results. According to him, addressing people’s concerns requires sustained engagement, timely decisions and a clear focus on local development priorities.
The convention also focused on strengthening contact with residents across the Devsar constituency to understand their problems and identify development-related challenges requiring the attention of the concerned authorities.
Razatullah reiterated that governance should be measured by the delivery of public commitments and improvements in the everyday lives of ordinary citizens. He called for a result-oriented approach that prioritises people’s needs and ensures that development initiatives reach the grassroots level.
His remarks come amid continuing political debate in Devsar over development priorities and the implementation of promises made by the ruling government.
The convention underscored the importance of public accountability, responsive governance and sustained engagement with local communities in addressing unresolved issues and meeting people’s expectations.
