SRINAGAR, Aug 20: A delegation of The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre, led by its Chairman Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, FIE, visited the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar to welcome Prof. Anurag Misra, FIE, on his appointment as the new Director of the institute.
The delegation conveyed its warm greetings and best wishes to Prof. Misra and expressed confidence that his leadership would further strengthen NIT Srinagar’s academic, research and professional engagement in engineering and allied fields.
The delegation comprised Er. Ferdous Ahad Bhat, FIE, Chairman; Er. Irfan Ahmad Reshi, FIE, Honorary Secretary; Er. Shuja Hussain Qureshi, MIE, Member, Executive Committee; Dr. Tanveer Rasool, FIE, Corporate Member; and Er. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, FIE, Corporate Member. Several officials and faculty members of NIT Srinagar, including Prof. M.S. Mir, were also present during the interaction.
The Chairman said that NIT Srinagar, being an Institutional Member of The Institution of Engineers (India), would continue to receive institutional support from the IEI J&K State Centre for promoting engineering education, professional excellence, innovation and research in the larger interest of nation building.
The meeting also emphasised the importance of sustained institutional collaboration between IEI and NIT Srinagar, with discussions focusing on strengthening links between academia, professional bodies, researchers and industry.
A major point of discussion was the forthcoming 41st National Convention of Chemical Engineers and National Seminar on “Biomass: A Sustainable Resource for Decarbonising the Economy,” scheduled to be held in Srinagar on September 2 and 3, 2026.
The convention is being organised by The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu & Kashmir State Centre, under the aegis of the Chemical Engineering Division Board, IEI, in association with the Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Srinagar.
The two-day event is expected to bring together researchers, industry professionals, policymakers and academicians to deliberate on biomass utilisation, sustainable technologies, biofuels, bioenergy, biochemicals, circular bio-economy and other emerging areas relevant to decarbonisation.
During the interaction, Prof. Anurag Misra assured the delegation of his full support and cooperation for the successful organisation of the forthcoming convention. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further strengthening professional and academic collaboration between IEI J&K State Centre and NIT Srinagar.
