Army celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas with patriotic events in Keran

KUPWARA, Jul 26: The Indian Army commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas with a grand celebration at the iconic Rooh-e-Hind in Keran, paying tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War. The event brought together Army personnel, civil administration officials, veterans, students, community leaders and local residents in a solemn display of patriotism and national unity.

The programme honoured the courage, sacrifice and dedication of the Kargil martyrs, with participants remembering the soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s sovereignty. Set against the backdrop of the mountains of Keran, the event reflected the enduring spirit of unity and respect for the Indian Armed Forces.

A highlight of the celebration was a patriotic cultural performance by local school children, who presented songs dedicated to the nation’s heroes. Their performances received an emotional response from the audience, serving as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the Kargil martyrs and the inspiration they continue to provide to younger generations.

As part of the commemorative programme, the Indian Army organised a tree plantation drive under the campaign “Ek Ped Shaheed Ke Naam.” Participants planted saplings in memory of the fallen soldiers, symbolising the enduring legacy of their courage and sacrifice while promoting environmental conservation.

In another significant initiative, the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, in collaboration with the Indian Army, inaugurated computer laboratories at two government schools in Keran. The initiative aims to strengthen digital education in the border region by providing students with improved access to technology, modern learning resources and skill development opportunities.

The organisers said the establishment of the computer labs reflects a shared commitment to promoting education, innovation and digital empowerment among children living in remote border areas, helping bridge the digital divide and create better educational opportunities.

Senior officers of the Indian Army, officials from the civil administration, teachers, students, community representatives and hundreds of local residents attended the event, making the celebration a memorable tribute to the spirit of Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to honouring the sacrifices of the Kargil heroes while inspiring future generations to uphold the values of courage, patriotism and national service.
