JAMMU, Sep 8: The Yuva Rajput Sabha-J&K (YRS) on Tuesday announced that it would launch an agitation from September 10 over its demand for rollback of the UGC-related decision/policy and what it described as the need for greater equality and fairness in the reservation system.
The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by senior office bearers of the Sabha, who outlined the proposed programme and roadmap of the agitation.
Vishal Singh, Chief Spokesperson, YRS, welcomed the media representatives and briefed them about the purpose of the press conference, the Sabha’s major demands and the proposed course of action.
Elaborating on the agitation programme, Vikram Singh Vicky, former President, YRS, announced that the Sabha would commence its campaign from Lakhanpur, Kathua, on September 10, beginning from the statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh Ji. He said the proposed padal march would proceed towards Jammu and culminate at the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji on September 14.
Vicky appealed to people, particularly the youth, to participate in the agitation through peaceful and democratic means. He said the campaign seeks to highlight concerns over the UGC-related decision and reservation and to demand greater equality and fairness.
He posed the question: “If we can speak about One Nation, One Leader, One Constitution, then why can’t we speak about One Nation, One Law and equality in reservation?”
He maintained that the objective of the agitation was to provide a democratic platform for raising concerns and ensuring that the views of different sections of society are heard.
Rajan Singh Happy, former President, YRS, also spoke at the press conference and alleged that reservation was increasingly being treated as a political issue, which, he claimed, was contributing to divisions and resentment among communities.
He said that if India is to move towards becoming a developed nation, all sections of society must progress together. He called for a fair, transparent and inclusive approach to addressing concerns related to reservation and social equity.
The YRS reiterated that its proposed agitation would remain peaceful and democratic and appealed to people from different communities, especially young people, to participate in the campaign.
The Sabha said the September 10 programme at Lakhanpur would mark the beginning of a broader campaign concerning its demands on the UGC issue and reservation-related concerns. It also appealed to people to rise above political and caste-based differences and unite around the principles of equality, justice and equal opportunities.
Several members and supporters of the Sabha were present at the press conference, including Balkar Singh Tinu, Sumit Singh, Bharat Singh, Rakesh Singh, Danish Singh, Arya Singh and Anil Singh, among others.
The YRS leadership called upon the people of Jammu to join the proposed campaign and collectively raise their voice for what it described as a fair and equal system for all sections of society.
