Teachers remain indispensable in the Age of AI: Prof. M M Saxena

JAMMU / GIDDERBAHA, Sep 13: Sardar Parkash Singh Badal College of Management & Technology, Gidderbaha, celebrated Teachers’ Day 2026 with enthusiasm and dignity at the college Multipurpose Hall. The programme brought together faculty members and students to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of teachers to education and society. The celebration was organised around the thought-provoking theme, “From Chalkboard to AI – Why Teachers Still Matter More Than Ever.”

The theme highlighted the rapid transformation taking place in education with the growing use of Artificial Intelligence in teaching and learning. At the same time, it underlined the importance of the human qualities that make education meaningful. Speakers emphasised that while AI can provide information and support learning, it cannot replace the guidance, empathy, motivation and personal connection provided by teachers.

Prof. M. M. Saxena, Vice-Chancellor of Tantia University, Sri Ganganagar, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Prof. Yadwinder Pal Sharma, Assistant Director, CDC, MRS-PTU, Bathinda, attended as the Guest of Honour. The programme was organised under the able leadership of Principal Dr. R. K. Uppal, whose continued emphasis on academic excellence and holistic development was appreciated by the participants.

The stage proceedings were conducted by Prof. Kezia Arora and Mr. Gurjeet Singh, who welcomed the dignitaries and coordinated the programme effectively. Their confident presentation added energy and vibrancy to the celebration.

Addressing the gathering, the speakers stressed that teachers remain indispensable even in an era increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence. Teachers understand the individual needs and abilities of their students, motivate them during challenging situations and help them develop confidence, discipline, critical thinking and ethical judgment. They urged students to use AI responsibly and productively while continuing to uphold the values of respect, integrity, hard work and academic honesty.

The speakers observed that technology should complement teachers rather than weaken the teacher-student relationship. While AI can assist with information, analysis and personalised learning, teachers provide the human guidance required to help students understand, question and apply knowledge responsibly. The celebration thus reinforced the message that technological progress and quality teaching can work together to create a stronger and more meaningful education system.

The programme also paid tribute to the institution’s founder, Late Bibi Surinder Kaur Badal, whose educational vision continues to inspire the college. The contribution of the college management towards promoting quality education and creating a supportive academic environment was also acknowledged.

The celebration created a warm atmosphere of gratitude and appreciation, with students expressing their respect for their teachers and recognising their role in shaping their academic, personal and professional journeys. The event concluded with a renewed acknowledgment that even as classrooms move from chalkboards to Artificial Intelligence, teachers remain the guiding force behind meaningful education and the development of responsible individuals.
