Shiksha Niketan High School hosts Inter-School Quiz Competition “Jammu Ko Jano”

JAMMU, Aug 20: Shiksha Niketan High School, Gandhi Nagar, hosted a grand inter-school quiz competition, “Jammu Ko Jano,” on its campus with the aim of promoting awareness and appreciation of Jammu’s rich history, geography and cultural heritage among young learners. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing prominent schools of the region.

The programme commenced with an auspicious lamp-lighting ceremony in the presence of Principal Sh. Rameshwar Mengi and Director Dr. Risheek Mengi. Their presence encouraged the participating students to pursue academic excellence while remaining connected with the cultural and historical heritage of Jammu.

Six schools participated in the competition, including Shiksha Niketan School, Gandhi Nagar; Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School; Blooming Dales High School; RMPS; and Shiksha Niketan School, Jeevan Nagar. The participating teams displayed enthusiasm, confidence and strong knowledge throughout the contest.

The quiz was organised in four carefully designed rounds, each testing a different aspect of knowledge and teamwork. The first, Question-Answer Round, assessed the participants’ foundational knowledge of Jammu’s history and geography. The second, Pass-On Round, tested strategic thinking, coordination and collective team awareness.

The third, Visual Round, challenged students to identify important regional landmarks, personalities and cultural symbols. The final Buzzer Round added excitement to the competition, requiring participants to demonstrate quick thinking, instant recall and accuracy under pressure.

The host institution, Shiksha Niketan School, Gandhi Nagar, secured the highest marks during the competition. However, demonstrating exemplary hospitality and sportsmanship, the host school voluntarily relinquished its award in keeping with its tradition of allowing visiting participating institutions to take the winning positions.

Following the decision, Blooming Dales High School secured the first position, Shiksha Niketan School, Jeevan Nagar, bagged the second position, while Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School secured the third position.

The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which Principal Sh. Rameshwar Mengi felicitated the winners and appreciated the efforts of all participating teams. He commended the students for their enthusiasm, knowledge and competitive spirit and encouraged them to continue exploring the history and cultural heritage of their region.

The event concluded on a respectful note with the rendition of the National Anthem. The successful organisation of “Jammu Ko Jano” highlighted the importance of engaging young minds with local history and heritage while providing them with a platform to develop confidence, teamwork, critical thinking and a deeper sense of connection with Jammu’s cultural identity.
