Seminar on “Mind, Meaning and Mindfulness: Pathways to Psychological Well-Being” organised at GCOE

JAMMU, Aug 11: The Psychological Counseling Cell and Student Wellness Committee of Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu, organised an insightful seminar on “Mind, Meaning and Mindfulness: Pathways to Psychological Well-Being”onAugust 11, 2026with the aim of promoting mental health awareness, emotional balance, and psychological well-being among students.

The seminar was conducted under the guidance of Dr.JyotiParihar, Principal, GCOE Jammu and featured Dr. Ambica Kumari, Head, Department of Psychology as the resource person.

Dr. Ambica Kumari highlighted the importance of understanding one’s thoughts, emotions and inner experiences for developing psychological resilience and maintaining well-being. She explained how mindfulness and meaningful engagement in everyday life can contribute to emotional regulation, self-awareness, and a healthier approach to challenges.

An important feature of the seminar was the inclusion of interactive mindfulness activities, through which students experienced practical techniques for enhancing present-moment awareness, concentration, emotional balance, and relaxation. The activities encouraged students to pause, observe their thoughts and feelings, and develop greater awareness of their experiences.

About 80 students from ITEP and B.Ed. programmes actively participated in the seminar and engaged enthusiastically in the discussions and mindfulness activities. The interactive nature of the programme provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the role of mental well-being in their academic, personal, and professional lives.

On the occasion, Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal, GCOE Jammu, appreciated the efforts of the Psychological Counseling Cell and Student Wellness Committee for organising the programme. She emphasised the importance of creating a supportive educational environment where students can develop not only academically but also emotionally and psychologically.

Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Dr. Shalini Rana, Dr. Suraj Prakash, Prof. Balwan Singh, Dr. Sonam Gandotra organised the program.

The seminar concluded with an encouraging message that psychological well-being is an ongoing journey of self-awareness, meaningful living, and mindful engagement with the present moment. The programme was appreciated by the participating students and contributed to strengthening the college’s efforts towards promoting a culture of mental health and student wellness.
