JAMMU, Jul 29: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) carried out a successful rescue operation to save a dumper driver trapped inside a vehicle after it plunged into a deep gorge in Nagrota, while simultaneously launching a search operation for a missing person suspected to have drowned in the Ranbir Canal.

According to SDRF officials, the Control Room received information during the intervening night of July 28 and 29 from DPL PCR Jammu regarding a road accident at Salini, Nagrota, where a dumper (Registration No. JK19-8556) had skidded off the road and fallen into a gorge.

The driver, Sanjay Singh (40), son of Master Ram and a resident of Chanderkote, Ramban, was trapped inside the badly damaged vehicle.

An SDRF rescue team from Battalion Headquarters, Jammu, under the supervision of Dy.SP Lalit Kumar and led by Sub-Inspector Bachitter Singh, immediately rushed to the accident site. Using specialised rescue equipment, the team carried out a challenging operation and successfully extricated the injured driver from the mangled vehicle.

The rescued driver was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

In a separate incident on July 29, another SDRF team from Battalion Headquarters, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Gopal Krishan, was deployed near Police Post Nehru Market after receiving information about a missing person.

The missing individual was identified as Ravi Singh (27), son of Gian Chand and a resident of Camp Gol Gujral, who had reportedly been missing since the previous night and was suspected to have drowned in the Ranbir Canal near the Tawi River Front Tube Well.

On reaching the location, the SDRF team immediately initiated a systematic search operation using specialised water search and rescue techniques. The search operation was continuing till the filing of the report.

An SDRF spokesperson reiterated the force’s commitment to providing prompt, professional, and efficient emergency response services to safeguard lives and ensure timely rescue and search operations across Jammu and Kashmir.
