SCW Crime Branch Jammu files charge-sheet in fake MES recruitment fraud case

JAMMU, Aug 4: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch Jammu has filed a charge-sheet before the Court of the Additional Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba, against two Punjab residents in connection with a fake recruitment scam in the Military Engineering Services (MES), in which job aspirants were allegedly cheated of Rs. 14 lakh.

The charge-sheet, filed on August 3, 2026, names Bakshish Singh, a resident of Amritsar, Punjab, and Amandeep Singh, a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, in FIR No. 07/2023 registered under Sections 420, 465, 468 and 120-B of the IPC.

According to the Crime Branch, the case was registered following a complaint by two residents of Samba district who alleged that the accused had induced them to pay Rs. 14 lakh on the false promise of securing jobs in the Military Engineering Services.

Investigators said the victims were allegedly issued forged appointment letters and directed to travel repeatedly to places including Ranchi and Meerut under the pretext of medical examinations, document verification and joining formalities. Verification with MES authorities later confirmed that the appointment letters were fake and had never been issued by the department.

During the investigation, the SCW collected documentary, digital and financial evidence, including bank transaction records and forensic examination reports of the questioned documents, which, according to the agency, supported the allegations.

Crime Branch officials said Bakshish Singh was arrested from Amritsar after sustained efforts, while co-accused Amandeep Singh continues to evade arrest despite extensive raids and the issuance of a lookout notice. Proceedings have also been initiated to have him declared a proclaimed offender.

The Crime Branch has urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job rackets and advised job seekers to verify the authenticity of recruitment offers through official government channels before making any payment.
