JAMMU, Jul 22: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Jammu and Kashmir Unit, State President Manish Sahni has criticised the recently notified Gazetted Selection List under the Sports Quota (SO-12), alleging discrimination against meritorious sportspersons from Jammu.
In a statement, Sahni expressed concern that medal-winning athletes from Olympic and internationally recognised disciplines such as Archery and Wushu had allegedly been overlooked, while candidates from less-recognised non-Olympic sports were given preference.
He said that despite repeated assurances regarding sports quota recruitment since 2019, the selection process has raised questions over transparency and fairness.
Demanding an impartial review of the selection list, Sahni urged the authorities to ensure justice for deserving athletes. He said sportspersons who have brought laurels to the region through their achievements should receive fair consideration in recruitment under the sports quota.
Sahni asserted that Shiv Sena (UBT) would continue to support the athletes of Jammu and raise their concerns until deserving candidates receive what he described as their rightful opportunities.
