Regular screening, prompt medical evaluation of warning signs can detect cancer early: expert

JAMMU /CHANDIGARH, Aug 17: While highlighting the importance of early cancer screening and timely diagnosis, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali on Monday emphasized that detecting cancer at an early stage can significantly improve treatment outcomes and increase the chances of successful recovery.

Many cancers develop silently and may not cause noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Regular screening and prompt medical evaluation of warning signs such as unexplained weight loss, persistent lumps, unusual bleeding, prolonged fever, chronic pain, or unexplained fatigue can help detect cancer before it progresses, said Dr Krutika Goel, Consultant–Paediatric Oncology.

Early diagnosis often allows for less intensive treatment and better long-term outcomes, she said.

Explaining further Dr Goel said, “Early detection remains one of the most effective ways to improve cancer outcomes. While not all cancers can be prevented, recognizing warning signs and seeking timely medical attention can make a significant difference. Parents should also be aware of persistent or unusual symptoms in children, as childhood cancers, which are now getting Diagnosed Increasingly every year, are highly treatable when diagnosed early.”

Meanwhile Max also encouraged individuals with a family history of cancer or other high-risk factors to undergo regular health check-ups and discuss appropriate screening options with their healthcare provider.
