JAMMU, May 30: Power Grid Corporation Of India Limited (POWERGRID), Northern Region-II with its Regional Head-quarters at Jammu is celebrating Fortnite long Swachhata Pakhwada from 16th of May to 31st May, 2026.
This Swachhata Pakhwada 2026concept is inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision to make swachhta everyone’s business in Swachhata related activities. The year 2026 is the 11th consecutive year of the Sachita Pakhwada implementation. In this Pakhwada POWERGRID, Northern Region-II undertook various programmes to Sensitize general public about virtues of swachhata and healthiness.
Swachhata Pledge was solemnly administered by Executive Director Northern Region-II, Tarun Bajaj to all the employees at RHQ Jammu.
During the event, Tarun Bajaj emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings and urged everyone to actively engage in Swachhata-related initiatives.
His inspiring words served as a powerful reminder of our collective duty towards a cleaner and healthier environment, reinforcing our commitment to the nation. Simultaneously, the Swachhata Pledge was also taken by employees and supporting staff across all Stations under NRTS-II, marking a unified effort towards this noble cause.
A Radio Campaign was launched in all major FM channels of the Region wherein message for observing swachhta in our daily life was broadcast. Various events like Shramdhan, signature campaigns, awareness sessions, medical camps were also organised during this Pakhwada.
A vibrant Nukad Natak(street play) and a mass awareness campaign was organised today at the Trikuta Nagar Sabzi Mandi. The initiative aimed to educate the general public on the critical importance of hygiene and environmental sustainability.
Driven by the mission to eliminate single-use plastics, POWERGRID launched a targeted campaign urging citizens to say no to plastic bags.
To provide an immediate, eco-friendly alter-native, more than 600 high-quality cotton and jute bags were distributed during the event. Vegetable and fruit vendors were actively encouraged to use these biodegradable bags for their sales, and bags were also distributed widely among the general public visiting the market.
The event was graced by senior leadership and key dignitaries, including S.K. Chowan, Chief General Manager (Projects), POWERGRID, Ashutosh K. Sharma, General Manager (HR), POWERGRID alongwith other Senior officers and employees of POWERGRID. Prominent members of the Trikuta Nagar Welfare Society and Officials from the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) were also present on this occasion.
Another activity to imbibe value of swachhta among young minds, an interschool painting competition and a competion on best out of waste was also organized at the POWERGRID, Community centre on the theme of “Swachhta”. Around thirty three students of around 16 schools of Jammu division participated in this painting competition. The painting material and all tools were provided to the children by the POWERGRID. Children through these paintings expressed their concern on virtues of swachhta and suggested various measures to make our nation free from dirt and filth. Dignitaries on this occasion appreciated the talent shown by the students through their paintings and advised them to contribute in ensuring that a healthy environment is available to mankind for its survival.
Prince Kumar of GBHSS,Gandhinagar ,Sonam Thakur of GGHSS, Shastri Nagar,Nisha Moury, GGHSS , Shastri Nagar and Adarsh Vishvkarma of GBHSS, Gandhi nagar received First, Second, Third and Consolation prize in Painting Competition, Whereas Manat Charak of GGHSS, Shastri Nagar,Muhmmad Aqib and Sananda of GHPS won first , second and third prizes in Best out of Waste category.Winners and all participants of this competition were felicitated by the dignitaries present on this occasion. Swacchta Pledge to the children and teachers present on the occasion was administered by was presented by Sh. Ashutosh K Sharma, General Manager(HR), POWER-GRID.
