JAMMU, Jul 1: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv. Devraj Sharma has expressed serious concern over recent remarks reportedly made by some ruling party MLAs alleging that Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has been diverting development funds meant for other constituencies and disproportionately utilizing them for the development of his own constituency, Nowshera.
Devraj Sharma said that if such allegations and perceptions are gaining ground within the ruling party itself, it reflects poorly on the principles of fair governance and equitable development. He cautioned that prioritizing one constituency at the cost of others, if true, goes against the spirit of balanced regional development and undermines public trust in democratic institutions.
He further stated that every constitutional functionary, including the deputy Chief minister, takes an oath to work without prejudice and ensure equal treatment to all regions and constituencies. Any deviation from this principle, he said, could set an unhealthy precedent in governance. The senior BJP leader observed that development must remain inclusive and need-based, rather than influenced by political or geographical preferences. He warned that such practices, if perceived to be true, could weaken public confidence in the electoral system and governance framework.
Devraj Sharma also appealed to Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary to take cognizance of the matter and ensure strict adherence to rules and principles of equitable development across all constituencies. He said timely intervention would help restore public faith and ensure that governance remains transparent, fair, and people-centric.He added that the idea that “might is right” has no place in a democratic setup and urged all stakeholders to work collectively for balanced development and strengthening of democratic values in Jammu and Kashmir.
