KISHTWAR, Sep 3: Senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) leader and spokesperson for the Chenab Valley region Ajeet Bhagat said the party remains deeply rooted in its founding philosophy of standing with the voiceless, disadvantaged and marginalised sections of society.
Bhagat said the National Conference has historically worked for the upliftment of socially and economically backward communities and remains committed to carrying forward this legacy. He said the party’s founding manifesto represents more than a political document, describing it as a commitment towards ensuring dignity, justice and equal opportunities for all.
“The National Conference has always stood for the voiceless and marginalised. Our founding manifesto is not just a document, but a promise to ensure dignity, justice and equal opportunities for all,” Bhagat said.
He maintained that successive NC governments had undertaken several initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of weaker sections and transforming the lives of ordinary people across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Bhagat, measures such as land reforms, social welfare initiatives and comprehensive development policies played an important role in empowering people who had remained disadvantaged for decades.
Criticising previous governments, Bhagat alleged that the “unilateral and insensitive policies” pursued by earlier BJP-backed governments disrupted the process of inclusive development and further affected weaker sections of society.
He accused the previous dispensation of reversing years of social and economic progress and said the need of the hour was to restore a governance model that remained sensitive to the aspirations and difficulties of common people.
Expressing confidence in the present administration, Bhagat said the Omar Abdullah-led government was working towards restoring people-oriented governance in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Under the dynamic leadership of Omar Abdullah, the government is once again focusing on inclusive development, equitable growth and grassroots empowerment. Every decision is being taken under the principle that no section of society should feel left out,” he said.
Bhagat further said the party was not merely revisiting its historical legacy but seeking to strengthen it through its present political and governance initiatives.
“The ongoing efforts of the present government reflect the best traditions of National Conference’s compassion, secularism and people-oriented governance,” he said, adding that the objective was to restore public trust and ensure that governance reaches every doorstep with fairness and sensitivity.
