JAMMU, Oct 6: Master Behari Lal Nanda, a respected figure from Bishnah town, dedicated his life to the ideals and mission of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, working throughout his life to promote equality, social justice and fraternity, said R.L. Kaith.
Nanda served as a teacher in government schools for several years and retired from service with an unblemished record. As an educator, he not only imparted academic knowledge to his students but also emphasised the values of equality, justice and social responsibility. His commitment to education and learning earned him respect within the local community.
According to Kaith, Nanda remained deeply committed to spreading the teachings of Dr Ambedkar. Wherever he went, he propagated the message of social equality and justice and encouraged people, particularly those from marginalised sections, to pursue education and work towards social empowerment.
Nanda also made significant contributions towards the construction of the Lord Buddha Temple in Bishnah, reflecting his deep faith in Buddhism and its principles. He strongly believed in the teachings of Lord Buddha, particularly compassion, non-violence, equality and peaceful coexistence, and worked to spread these values within society.
Kaith recalled his personal interactions with Master Nanda and said that he had the opportunity to meet him several times and learn from his dedication and social commitment. “I learnt a lot from him,” Kaith said, recalling Nanda’s unwavering commitment to the cause of social justice.
Nanda’s ideals also influenced his family. His son Prem Nandan and son-in-law Ravi Dass Kaith are continuing to work along the same lines and remain committed to carrying forward his social and ideological legacy.
Master Nanda’s contribution to promoting education, social harmony and the teachings of Dr Ambedkar and Lord Buddha continues to be remembered by people in Bishnah and surrounding areas. His supporters believe that his life demonstrated how individual commitment and sustained social work can contribute to creating a more equal and harmonious society.
Kaith said Nanda’s legacy remains particularly relevant at a time when the principles of human dignity, equality, fraternity and social justice continue to hold importance. His lifelong efforts, he said, serve as an inspiration for younger generations to work for the welfare of society and uphold the values of justice and compassion.
