JAMMU, Nov 5: Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokesperson Zorawar Singh Jamwal today hailed the Union Government’s decision to provide an additional two-year engagement period to Agniveers and create a pathway for their eventual absorption into the regular Armed Forces, describing it as a historic and progressive step towards safeguarding the future of India’s young soldiers.

Appreciating the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the decisive approach of the Union Cabinet, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said the decision reflects the government’s sensitivity towards the aspirations of young people who have chosen to serve the nation in uniform. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognising the dedication, discipline, courage and professional capabilities of Agniveers.

He said that under the revised arrangement, 25 per cent of Agniveers will continue to be offered regular employment in the Armed Forces on the basis of merit after completing their initial four-year tenure. The remaining 75 per cent will be offered an additional two-year engagement period on a voluntary basis.

Following completion of this extended period, all willing Agniveers will have an opportunity to be enrolled as regular soldiers, subject to prescribed selection criteria.

“This is a far-reaching decision that provides greater career opportunities, continuity of service and renewed confidence to thousands of young men and women who have dedicated themselves to the service of the motherland. The government has listened to the feedback received from the Armed Forces and taken a constructive decision that balances the aspirations of Agniveers with the operational requirements of the military,” Zorawar Singh Jamwal said.

Highlighting the significance of the decision for Jammu and Kashmir, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that Jammu and Kashmir especially Jammu Province has a strong tradition of patriotism, with generations of young people joining the Armed Forces and making immense sacrifices for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Jammu and Kashmir has always been at the forefront of national service. Thousands of families across the region take pride in having their sons and daughters serve in the Armed Forces. This decision will bring renewed hope to aspiring youth and families who see military service not just as employment but as an honour and an opportunity to serve Bharat Mata,” he said.

He also urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to take inspiration from the Armed Forces, develop discipline, acquire professional skills and actively participate in nation-building.

He observed that the performance of Agniveers over the past four years has demonstrated their high levels of physical fitness, discipline, motivation, technological adaptability and commitment to duty. Their contribution has strengthened the Armed Forces, and the positive assessment by military leadership itself reflects the effectiveness of the training and recruitment framework.

The BJP Spokesperson further said that the additional two-year engagement period, accompanied by enhanced remuneration, an improved Seva Nidhi package and seniority-related benefits, would provide greater financial security and professional experience to Agniveers. It would also give them another opportunity to prove their capabilities and qualify for regular military service.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently maintained that the youth are the greatest strength of the nation. This decision reinforces that commitment. Those who have demonstrated their willingness to make sacrifices for the country deserve encouragement, recognition and meaningful opportunities to build their future. The revised framework provides precisely that pathway,” he added.

The BJP spokesperson said the decision should be viewed not merely as an administrative modification of the Agnipath scheme but as an important step towards creating a more experienced, youthful, disciplined and technologically equipped military force capable of responding to emerging security challenges.

Zorawar Singh Jamwal said the Modi government has consistently worked towards empowering the youth through skill development, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and structural reforms in the defence sector.

Congratulating the Prime Minister, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the Union Cabinet for the decision, he said the government has once again demonstrated that it is committed to the welfare of soldiers while keeping national security and military preparedness at the centre of its policies.

“The message is clear: the nation values its Agniveers, recognises their contribution and is committed to expanding opportunities for those who wish to continue serving in uniform. This is a positive development for our youth, a confidence-building measure for military aspirants and a significant step towards a stronger and more secure India,” Zorawar Singh Jamwal concluded.
