JAMMU, Sep 2: Continuing efforts to empower youth against substance abuse under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan,” Social Activist and Chairman of Samvedna Society Keshav Chopra organized anti-drug sensitisation programmes at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nawabad, and Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, Jammu, today.
The programmes aimed to create awareness among students about the serious physical, mental and social consequences of substance abuse and encourage them to adopt a healthy, disciplined and purposeful lifestyle. Dinesh Menon, social activist and former ONGC employee who retired in April 2026, was also present.
Addressing the students, Keshav Chopra stressed the important role of students, parents and teachers in creating a substance-free environment. Giving the call “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Career,” he urged young people to channel their energy and potential towards education, sports and skill development.
Chopra called upon students to become ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir mission and inspire their peers to make positive and responsible choices. He appreciated the efforts of the Police and District Administration in combating the drug menace and reaffirmed Samvedna Society’s commitment to extending full support to the ongoing anti-drug campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, Dinesh Menon highlighted his nationwide awareness walk conducted under the theme “Nasha Mukt Yuva – Viksit Bharat.” He said that youth constitute the strongest force in the fight against substance abuse and emphasized the need for coordinated efforts involving social organizations, educational institutions, administration and society.
Kartar Chand Sharma underlined the crucial role of educational institutions in sensitising young minds. He urged students to remain focused on their studies and cultivate positive habits, while assuring continued cooperation with Samvedna Society in its awareness initiatives.
Deepali Handa stressed the importance of collective action involving schools, parents and the administration. She encouraged students to make education, sports and career development the foundation of their future rather than falling prey to substance abuse.
The programmes witnessed active participation from students and faculty members. The interaction concluded with a collective resolve to contribute towards building a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
