JAMMU, Jul 31: The 12th edition of the Welham Boys’ School Model United Nations (MUN) was held from July 28 to 30.
This event brought together leading schools from across India including Mayo College (Boys & Girls) Ajmer, The Doon School Dehradun, Daly College Indore, K.C Public School Jammu, Sanskriti School New Delhi, Welham Girls’ School Dehradun, Rajkumar College Raipur Chhattisgarh, Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls’ Public School Jodhpur, Sunbeam Lahartara Varanasi, Yadavindra Public School Patiala, British Co-Ed High School Patiala, Pinegrove School Dharampur, Emerald Heights School Indore, Jammu Sanskriti School Jammu, Unison World School Dehradun, Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya Gwalior and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School Jaipur.
A 12-member delegation from KC Public School participated across various committees.
The conference was centered around the theme ‘Ordo ab Chao’ (Order from Chaos), emphasizing that order is forged through dialogue, diplomacy and determined leadership.
The event featured several committees including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations General Assembly: Disarmament and International Security Committee (UNGA DISEC), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), United Nations General Assembly: Special Political and Decolonisation Committee (UNGA SPECPOL), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Council of Hindustan and the International Press Corps (IPC).
The agenda for the United Nations Security Council was ‘De-escalating the Conflagration of the Israel–Iran Military Conflict’.
The United Nations General Assembly: Disarmament and International Security Committee deliberated on ‘Reassessing Global Security Architectures Governing Strategically Contested Territories amid Intensifying Great Power Rivalry’.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime discussed ‘Disrupting the Nexus Between Synthetic Narcotics Trafficking and Human Exploitation by Transnational Organised Crime Syndicates’.
The United Nations General Assembly: Special Political and Decolonisation Committee debated ‘Revisiting the Montevideo Convention and International Guidelines for the Recognition of Secessionist Entities while Limiting Discretion of Parent States’.
The United Nations Human Rights Council deliberated on ‘Examining and Safeguarding the Human and Legal Rights of Asylum Seekers, Migrant Workers and Detained Individuals across the World’.
The Council of Hindustan simulated ‘The Revolt of 1857’, while members of the International Press Corps reported on and analysed the proceedings of all committees.
Arindham Jamwal and Medhansh Sharma of KCPS received Verbal Mentions in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) while Vivaan Mahajan received a Verbal Mention in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Other KCPS participants were Vanshika Mehta, Kaavin Bhushan, Kashvi Dhar, Aradhit Sharma, Sanvi Gupta, Shreedha Gupta, Tejasvi Raina, Chitrangna Sharma and Ashinya Sharma.
The conference provided the delegates with a valuable platform to enhance their skills in diplomacy, negotiation, public speaking, research and critical thinking, making the conference a memorable and enriching learning experience for all participants.
