JAMMU, Jul 4: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (Regd.), Jammu, strongly condemned the recent attempt by Kashmir zone Police to arrest a member of the Bar from inside the court premises at Janipur, Jammu. Such actions are wholly unacceptable and undermine the dignity and functioning of the courts.
The Association viewed the attempted arrest as a serious breach of established legal norms and court decorum. Interference with advocates while they are performing their professional duties inside court precincts compromises the independence of the legal profession and creates an atmosphere of intimidation that is detrimental to the administration of justice.
K. Nirmal Kotwal, Senior Advocate and President of the Association, alongwith office bearers Vice President Baldev Singh, General Secretary Pardeep Majotra, Joint Secretary Anshu Mahajan and Treasurer Rahul Aggarwal, in presence of battery of lawyers, denounced the police action and called for immediate corrective measures to ensure that court premises remain safe and free from any form of coercion or extrajudicial interference.
He emphasized the need for mutual respect between law enforcement agencies and the legal community and urged authorities to follow proper procedures when dealing with members of the Bar.
JKHCBAJ requested an impartial inquiry into the incident and expects appropriate action to be taken so that such occurrences are not repeated. The Association reaffirms its commitment to protecting the rights and privileges of its members and to preserving the independence and dignity of the courts.
