JAMMU, Jul 1: A delegation of the JK Lecturer Forum/Government Teachers Forum, Jammu, on Wednesday met the Commissioner/Secretary, School Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir, and submitted a detailed memorandum highlighting the long-pending demands of the lecturer community.
The delegation was led by Forum President Vijay Kumar and Vice President Niranjan Sharma. Other members included General Secretary Rakesh Kumar Verma, Niranjan Sharma, Yash Paul, Mohan Lal, Fiaz Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, Kuldeep Kumar and Gopal Dutt Sharma.
During the meeting, the delegation demanded the immediate regularisation of In-Charge (I/C) Lecturers promoted in 2019 along with the release of pending charge allowance. The Forum also sought the formulation of a transparent and time-bound transfer policy for Hard Zone Lecturers to ensure fair and timely transfers.
The delegation further urged the government to transfer lecturers nearing retirement to their home stations on humanitarian grounds. It also demanded the immediate opening of the ATD portal during the summer vacation to facilitate transparent transfers. Another major demand was the grant of one month’s Earned Leave to lecturers who perform examination and other official duties during the summer vacation.
The Commissioner/Secretary gave a patient hearing to the issues raised and assured the delegation that all genuine demands would be examined sympathetically. He said every effort would be made to address the concerns of the lecturer community at the earliest in accordance with government rules and policy.
Expressing satisfaction over the meeting, the JK Lecturer Forum/Government Teachers Forum thanked the Commissioner/Secretary for his positive response and expressed hope that the pending issues of lecturers would be resolved soon in the larger interest of the teaching fraternity and the education sector.
