CHENANI, Oct 4: President, Jammu and Kashmir Jat Sabha, Manjit Singh, today convened a meeting at village Sangote, Tehsil Chenani, where serious concerns regarding the developmental deficit and basic civic amenities in the area were raised. The meeting was organised by Amit Choudhary and was attended by former Minister and J&K Apni Party Senior Vice President Ch. Sukh Nandan Kumar, MLA and Apni Party Vice President Ch. Vikram Randhawa, former Corporator and District President Jammu Urban Dwarka Choudhary, Manjeet Jat, President District Jammu Rural, Kamal Randhawa, Cashier J&K Jat Sabha, Mandeep Choudhary, Youth President J&K Jat Sabha, Shubham Choudhary, President Jammu District, Tableen Boparai and Abhinandan Choudhary, besides local residents and members of the Jat Sabha.

Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said that the condition of remote and rural areas such as Sangote reflects the need for a more focused approach towards balanced development. He said that despite repeated claims of development, several villages continue to face basic problems, particularly poor or inadequate road connectivity, which directly affects the movement of residents, students, farmers and patients. He said that the absence of reliable roads not only causes inconvenience but also limits access to markets, government services and emergency healthcare. He urged the concerned authorities to give priority to improving road connectivity to the village and other habitations of the Chenani area so that people living in geographically difficult and remote locations are not deprived of basic infrastructure.

Manjit Singh further highlighted the irregular supply of drinking water and electricity and the lack of adequate medical and educational facilities in the area. He said that residents should not have to travel long distances for basic healthcare, while students should have access to quality educational infrastructure within reasonable reach. He stressed that unless these fundamental requirements are addressed, development at the grassroots level will have little tangible impact on the lives of people. Singh called for a coordinated assessment of the problems faced by Sangote and adjoining villages, followed by time-bound measures to improve connectivity, water supply, power infrastructure, healthcare and education. He said that equitable development must reach the last village and every section of society.

Ch. Sukh Nandan Kumar, former Minister and Senior Vice President of the Apni Party, said that the concerns raised by residents deserve serious attention from the administration. He said rural communities play an important role in the socio-economic development of the region but often face difficulties in accessing basic public services. He stressed the need for strengthening rural infrastructure and ensuring that government schemes translate into visible benefits on the ground.

Ch. Vikram Randhawa, MLA and Vice President of the Apni Party, said that better connectivity and basic amenities are essential for improving the quality of life in remote areas. He emphasised that roads, electricity, drinking water, healthcare and education cannot be treated as secondary requirements, particularly for villages located in hilly and difficult terrain. He called for greater coordination between the concerned departments to address local issues and ensure effective implementation of development works.

Dwarka Choudhary, former Corporator and District President Jammu Urban, said that the concerns of villagers need to be heard at the appropriate forums and followed up until tangible improvements are achieved. He said that strengthening rural infrastructure is essential for reducing the gap between urban and remote areas and ensuring inclusive development.

During the programme, Diksha Choudhary, daughter of Nanak Chand Choudhary and Santosh Kumari, was felicitated for securing the distinction of topping Udhampur district in the CBSE Class 12 examination during the 2024–25 session.
