JAMMU, Aug 1: Demonstrating honesty, alertness and commitment to passenger service, the Ticket Checking Staff of Northern Railway’s Jammu Division successfully recovered a stolen bag and returned unclaimed cash to passengers in two separate incidents, reinforcing the Railways’ commitment to ensuring the safety and security of travellers.
In the first incident, on July 31, shortly after Train No. 22429 Delhi–Pathankot Superfast departed from Amritsar railway station, a complaint was received through the Rail Madad portal regarding the theft of a passenger’s bag from Seat No. 46 in Coach D-1.
Acting swiftly, the Ticket Checking Staff contacted the complainant and collected details about the missing bag. Based on information gathered from fellow passengers, they learnt that a few suspicious individuals had moved towards the general coaches. The checking staff, along with personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), immediately launched a search operation in the general coaches and successfully recovered the stolen bag.
After completing the necessary verification process in the presence of GRP officials, the bag was handed back to its rightful owner. The passenger confirmed that all important documents, personal belongings and wallet were intact and appreciated the prompt response and professionalism of the railway staff.
In another incident on July 29, the Ticket Checking Staff on duty aboard Train No. 12414 Jammu Tawi–Ajmer Pooja Galtadham Superfast found ₹4,000 in cash lying unclaimed on Seat No. 43 in Coach B-3 during routine checking.
Using the reservation chart and Passenger Name Record (PNR) details, the staff identified the owner, who was found asleep on another berth. After proper verification, the cash was returned to the passenger, who thanked Indian Railways and the Ticket Checking Staff for their honesty and timely assistance.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, “The safety, comfort and security of passengers and their belongings are our top priority. In both incidents, our Ticket Checking Staff acted promptly and responsibly, further strengthening the passenger-friendly image of Indian Railways. Jammu Division remains committed to providing safe, secure and convenient travel to all passengers.”
The Jammu Division has appealed to passengers to remain vigilant about their belongings during travel and to immediately report any problem to railway staff or through the Rail Madad helpline 139 for prompt assistance.
