JAMMU, Jul 19: Intensifying its offensive against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan and the Government’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, District Police Jammu have frozen 17 vehicles worth approximately ₹50 lakh believed to be linked with the proceeds of illicit drug trafficking.
According to a police spokesperson, the action has been taken by Police Station Miran Sahib under the provisions of Section 68F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The vehicles are suspected to have either been acquired through the proceeds of narcotics trafficking or used in connection with the illegal drug trade.
The spokesperson said the move is part of an ongoing financial investigation aimed at dismantling the economic network of organised drug syndicates operating in the region. “District Police Jammu is targeting not only drug peddlers but also the financial assets generated through illegal narcotics activities to break the backbone of organised drug trafficking,” the spokesperson stated.
The frozen assets include six Maruti Swift cars, one Maruti Swift Dzire, one Mahindra Thar, one Mahindra Bolero, one Maruti Alto, one Hyundai Santro, one Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle, one KTM motorcycle, four Hero Splendor motorcycles, and one motorcycle bearing chassis number MBLHAW222P4H07740. The total market value of the attached vehicles is estimated at around ₹50 lakh.
Issuing a public advisory, the police spokesperson informed that all the above-mentioned vehicles have been frozen under the NDPS Act. Any attempt to purchase, sell, transfer, lease, mortgage or otherwise deal with these vehicles without the permission of the competent authority will constitute a violation of law and may invite strict legal action.
The spokesperson reiterated that financial investigation has become an integral part of every major NDPS investigation, and stringent action will continue against all movable and immovable properties found to be linked with the proceeds of drug trafficking.
District Police Jammu also appealed to citizens to actively support the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan by sharing credible information regarding drug trafficking and other narcotics-related offences with the nearest police station. The police assured that the identity of informants would be kept strictly confidential.
