KATHUA, May 12: The second day of the Inter-Zone District Level Tournaments for Under-17 boys and girls was successfully organised at different venues across Kathua district under the banner of the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
The Upper Zone competitions were held at Naz Ground Billawar, while the Lower Zone events took place at Sports Stadium Kathua. Six zones each from the Upper and Lower Zones participated enthusiastically in various sporting disciplines, displaying talent, discipline and team spirit.
The tournament featured competitions in Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Chess, Football and Martial Arts. Cricket matches were also played between Hiranagar and Bhaddu zones. The event was conducted under the overall supervision of District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kathua, Sunil Singh, along with the dedicated field staff of the department.
A total of 558 participants took part in the competitions held throughout the day, showcasing remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
In the Lower Zone competitions, Lakhanpur defeated Sallan by 8 points in Kho-Kho, while Sallan registered a 2-0 victory over Kathua in Volleyball. In Kabaddi, Lakhanpur defeated Hiranagar by 20 points. Kathua secured a 2-0 win over Hiranagar in Badminton and also defeated Hiranagar by 1-0 goal in Football.
In the Upper Zone competitions, Basholi emerged victorious in both Kho-Kho and Kabaddi events. Bani secured victory in Volleyball, while Bhaddu won the Badminton competition.
The organisers stated that the tournament aims to promote sports culture and provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent at the district level. They appreciated the enthusiasm shown by players and officials during the competitions.
The winning teams will now represent their respective zones in the upcoming Inter-Zone District Level competitions. The tournament concluded with great excitement and enthusiasm among players, officials and spectators.
