Independence Day celebrated at GMS Mir Sarti

PANCHARI, Aug 17: In a historic and proud moment for the local community, Independence Day–2026 was celebrated at Govt Middle School Mir Sarti of Zone Panchari for the first time with great patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and a strong focus on the preservation of the rich Dogra cultural heritage.

The programme was successfully conducted under the chairmanship of the Headmaster, GMS Mir Sarti, with active participation from students, teaching staff, parents and members of the local community. Ex-Servicemen and former Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) representatives from Block Panchari also attended the programme and extended their support to the celebrations.

The National Flag was  hoisted, followed by the National Anthem. Around eight schools participated in the celebrations, with approximately 1,500 students and staff members, along with parents of the participating students, attending the function.

A major highlight of the programme was the presentation of Dogri cultural programmes, specially organised to promote, preserve and revive the rich traditions of the Dogra community. The local team presented Dogri Bhaakh, while students and participants showcased traditional Kud Dance, Dogri folk songs and other cultural performances.

The emphasis on Dogri culture was aimed at connecting the younger generation with their traditional roots and creating awareness among children about the importance of preserving their language, folk traditions, customs and cultural identity. The programme conveyed a strong message that the younger generation should take pride in its Dogra heritage and carry these traditions forward for generations to come.

The cultural performances were highly appreciated by the gathering and created an atmosphere of pride, enthusiasm and cultural unity. The participation of Ex-Servicemen, former PRIs, parents, teachers and members of the local community further strengthened the spirit of collective responsibility towards preserving the region’s cultural heritage.

On the occasion, local residents collectively organised a Langar (Community Meal) for all the participants and members of the gathering. The initiative reflected the spirit of community service, brotherhood, unity and togetherness.

The first-ever Independence Day celebration at Mir thus became not only a celebration of India’s freedom but also a meaningful effort towards reviving and preserving Dogra culture among the younger generation. The event reflected a collective commitment to ensure that the coming generations remain connected with their Dogri language, traditions and cultural heritage.

The programme concluded successfully with a message of patriotism, national unity, cultural preservation and community participation, inspiring the younger generation to respect, protect and proudly carry forward the rich cultural legacy of the Dogra region.
