JAMMU, Sep 30: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu, with the support of J&K Bank under its CSR initiative, flagged off 71 bicycles along with dedicated cycle stands at its Jagti Campus on 30th Sept 2026, marking a meaningful step towards promoting student-led sustainable mobility, active living and environmental responsibility. The initiative encourages students to embrace greener modes of transportation within the campus while fostering a culture of sustainability, healthy living and responsible environmental stewardship.
The initiative, supported by J&K Bank, was formally flagged off by Amitava Chatterjee, Managing Director & CEO, J&K Bank, in the presence of Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, Shri Ashok Gupta, General Manager, J&K Bankalong with faculty, officers, staff, and students at the Institute. The entire initiative was coordinated by the Student Affairs Office, IIM Jammu.
The provision of 71 cycles and dedicated cycle stands by J&K Bank marks a meaningful step towards encouraging cleaner and healthier modes of intra-campus mobility. With its expansive 200-acre campus, IIM Jammu has been consistently working towards creating an ecosystem where sustainability, wellness, and responsible living are integrated into everyday campus life.
The initiative goes beyond facilitating transportation. It seeks to cultivate a culture of active mobility among students and the wider Institute community, encouraging cycling as a healthy, environment-friendly, and sustainable choice. The dedicated cycle stands will provide organized and accessible parking facilities, making cycling more convenient and encouraging its regular adoption across the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, appreciated J&K Bank for its continued support towards advancing sustainable practices at the Institute. He emphasised that sustainability extends beyond infrastructure and resources to include fostering responsible habits and conscious choices among young minds. He highlighted that IIM Jammu has consciously encouraged cleaner and more sustainable modes of intra-campus mobility, with students relying on shared and environment-friendly mobility options rather than using private two-wheelers and four-wheelers within the campus. Recalling J&K Bank’s earlier support through EV vehicles, he appreciated the Bank’s continued partnership in promoting sustainable mobility solutions at IIM Jammu. He noted that the addition of cycles further strengthens this approach by providing students with a healthy, active, and environment-friendly option for everyday campus movement, while contributing to a campus culture that values environmental responsibility, well-being, and collective participation.

He emphasised the importance of nurturing environmentally conscious habits among young professionals and future leaders, noting that cycling promotes active mobility, well-being, and responsible environmental choices. The ceremonial flag-off was followed by a cycle ride, with students and members of the Institute community participating in the initiative. The event marked the beginning of a renewed cycling culture at IIM Jammu, transforming sustainable mobility from an idea into an everyday campus practice. The event was coordinated by IIM Jammu Student Affairs Office.
