Hydrogen-powered train marks new era in green mobility: Adv. Devraj

JAMMU, Jul 16: Senior BJP leader and former Sarpanch Adv. Devraj Sharma has hailed the development of India’s first Hydrogen Fuel Cell Train as a historic milestone in the country’s journey towards clean energy, sustainable transportation and technological self-reliance.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Adv. Sharma said the introduction of the hydrogen-powered train reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a modern, environmentally responsible and innovation-driven India. He said the initiative would significantly strengthen Indian Railways’ commitment to reducing carbon emissions while providing safe, efficient and eco-friendly public transport.

Describing the project as a major technological achievement, Adv. Sharma said the hydrogen fuel cell train, with a carrying capacity of around 2,600 passengers, represents the future of railway transportation. Unlike conventional diesel-powered trains, the hydrogen-powered train emits only water vapour, making it a clean and sustainable alternative that will contribute towards reducing air pollution and achieving India’s long-term climate goals. He said the train has been equipped with advanced multi-layer safety systems capable of detecting hydrogen leaks, heat, flames and smoke, ensuring high operational safety standards and passenger confidence.

Adv. Sharma observed that the adoption of hydrogen technology demonstrates India’s growing capabilities in developing indigenous, next-generation transport solutions. He said the initiative would not only strengthen the country’s green mobility ecosystem but also encourage research, innovation and investment in clean energy technologies.

The BJP leader further stated that Indian Railways has emerged as one of the key drivers of the nation’s infrastructure transformation through rapid electrification, modernisation of railway stations, introduction of world-class trains and adoption of environmentally sustainable technologies. He expressed confidence that the hydrogen fuel cell train would pave the way for wider use of green hydrogen across the transport sector, helping India reduce dependence on fossil fuels while promoting energy security and environmental sustainability.

Adv. Sharma said such transformative initiatives are strengthening India’s global standing in clean technology and reinforcing the country’s resolve to achieve the vision of “Viksit Bharat” through innovation, sustainable development and modern infrastructure. He congratulated the scientists, engineers, Indian Railways and all stakeholders associated with the pioneering project, describing it as another proud moment in India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in green transportation.
