JAMMU, Aug 14: Social activist and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Gurmeet Singh Baaghi extended warm Independence Day greetings to the people of the country and paid tribute to the freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices laid the foundation of an independent India.

In his message, Baaghi said Independence Day is an occasion to remember with gratitude the countless patriots who sacrificed their lives for the nation’s freedom and to reaffirm the collective responsibility of building the India they envisioned.

“Today, we celebrate the 80th Independence Day of our country. I pay my tributes to those brave freedom fighters who made countless sacrifices to build an independent nation and to secure a bright future for it,” he said.

Baaghi said the most meaningful tribute to the freedom fighters would be to work towards building a united, strong, prosperous, inclusive and peaceful India, where the aspirations of every citizen can find expression and fulfilment.

He said Independence Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the values of freedom, equality, democracy and national unity. As citizens of the world’s largest and vibrant democracy, he added, it is the duty of every citizen to cherish freedom and equality while working to ensure dignity and justice for all.

Baaghi also stressed the importance of upholding democratic values and strengthening the spirit of fraternity and harmony among citizens.

Referring to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Baaghi said complete independence could attain its true meaning only when people translated the principles of truth and non-violence into their conduct and daily lives.

He said the freedom achieved through the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes should be protected by promoting peace, social harmony, equality and responsible citizenship.

Baaghi further noted that Independence Day is celebrated across the country through flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, cultural programmes and patriotic activities. He said the occasion brings citizens together and strengthens the feeling of national pride and unity.

He called upon people, particularly the younger generation, to contribute positively towards the nation’s progress and uphold the values for which the freedom struggle was fought.

Baaghi extended his wishes for a “brighter, healthier and more prosperous future” to the people of India and citizens across the world. He expressed hope that Independence Day would bring greater amity, harmony, peace and prosperity to the country.

He concluded by urging citizens to remember the sacrifices of the freedom fighters not only through celebrations but also by making sincere efforts to build a stronger, more inclusive and peaceful nation.
