KISHTWAR, May 30: Government Polytechnic College, Kishtwar successfully organized a Consumer Awareness Programme under the initiative of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology & Entrepreneur Development (IITED). The programme aimed to educate students about consumer rights, telecom services, broadcasting regulations, cyber security, and digital safety.
The awareness programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and staff of the institution. During the session, participants were sensitized about various consumer protection measures in the telecom and broadcasting sectors. Topics discussed included Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), spam calls, Digital Consent Acquisition, Do Not Disturb (DND) services, TRAI consumer applications, Caller Name Presentation (CNAP), consumer rights in television broadcasting services, PM-WANI, and mechanisms for lodging complaints related to telecom and broadcasting services.
A special session on cyber security and cyber awareness was conducted by the District Police Cyber Cell, Kishtwar. The session was led by Sub-Inspector Arfan Chandal along with officials from the Cyber Police Station, Kishtwar. The officers educated students about cyber threats, online financial frauds, phishing attacks, social media scams, cyber bullying, identity theft, and various preventive measures to ensure safe online practices. Students were also informed about different channels available for reporting cybercrime and seeking assistance in cases of cyber fraud.
The programme featured an interactive session conducted by TRAI representatives Hemraj Baghel and Prasanna Balvir, who addressed queries from students and faculty members regarding telecom consumer rights, digital safety, cyber fraud prevention, and various consumer welfare initiatives undertaken by TRAI. The session proved highly informative and enabled participants to gain practical knowledge about consumer protection and responsible digital citizenship.
Faculty members appreciated the efforts of TRAI, IITED, and the District Police Cyber Cell, Kishtwar, for organizing the awareness programme. They emphasized the need for informed and responsible use of telecom and digital services in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Arun Singh, In-charge, Government Polytechnic College, Kishtwar. He expressed gratitude to the representatives of TRAI, the District Police Cyber Cell, faculty members, students, and all stakeholders for their active participation and support in making the programme a success.
