KATHUA, May 12: Continuing their ongoing agitation for the second consecutive day, the Non-Gazetted Employees of Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua observed “Black Day” on the occasion of International Nurses Day by wearing black badges and holding a peaceful demonstration within the college premises.
The employees expressed strong resentment over the continued delay in the finalization and notification of the long-pending Recruitment and Service Rules for the Non-Gazetted Subordinate Staff of the newly established Government Medical Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the protest, employees assembled inside the college campus, raising slogans in support of their demand for immediate finalization of the Recruitment Rules. They stated that despite rendering dedicated services in the healthcare sector under challenging conditions, their genuine issues have remained ignored for years.
The protesting employees said that the non-finalization of Recruitment Rules has created uncertainty regarding service conditions, promotions, seniority and career progression of the staff working in newly established Government Medical Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed disappointment that repeated representations and assurances from the concerned authorities have not resulted in any concrete outcome.
While observing “Black Day,” the employees also paid tribute to the nursing fraternity and healthcare workers for their invaluable contribution towards patient care and public health services. They stated that International Nurses Day represents dedication, compassion and selfless service to humanity.
The employees further said that instead of receiving proper recognition and appreciation for their tireless work in the healthcare sector, they have been compelled to observe the occasion as “Black Day” due to the continued neglect of their long-pending demand by the authorities.
They appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and concerned Minister Sakina Itoo to intervene personally and expedite the finalization and notification of the Recruitment and Service Rules without further delay.
The protesting employees reiterated that their peaceful agitation will continue until their genuine demands are fulfilled and their grievances are addressed by the Government.
