Raman Suri urges residents to complete census self-enumeration well in time
JAMMU, May 30: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri has appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to actively participate in the ongoing Census 2027 self-enumeration process and complete their details online before the deadline of May 31, 2026.
Describing the Census as one of the most important national exercises that helps the government formulate welfare schemes, development plans and public policies, Suri said that every citizen’s participation is vital to ensure accurate representation of the population and its needs.
In a statement issued here today, Raman Suri said that the Government of India has provided a unique opportunity to citizens to self-enumerate through the online Census portal from May 17, 2026 to May 31, 2026.
He urged families across Jammu and Kashmir to take advantage of this facility and furnish their details voluntarily and accurately without waiting for the physical visit of census officials.
Suri emphasized that an accurate Census forms the foundation for effective governance, allocation of resources, planning of infrastructure projects, strengthening of healthcare and education facilities, and implementation of various welfare programmes.
He said that the information collected during the Census helps governments understand demographic changes, housing requirements, employment trends and social development indicators, thereby enabling better decision-making for the benefit of citizens.
The BJP leader informed that after the self-enumeration phase concludes on May 31, enumerators will undertake house-listing and verification visits from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
Citizens who complete the online self-enumeration process must carefully note and preserve their Self-Enumeration Identification Number (SE ID) and share it with the enumerator when he or she visits the household for verification. This will facilitate smooth processing and help avoid duplication of information.
Raman Suri further said that participation in the Census is not merely a civic responsibility but also an opportunity for every citizen to contribute towards the nation’s planning and development process.
He called upon educated youth, social organizations, resident welfare associations, trade bodies, panchayat representatives and community leaders to spread awareness about the self-enumeration facility and assist elderly persons and those unfamiliar with digital platforms in completing the process.
Appealing for maximum public cooperation, Suri said that a complete and accurate Census will help ensure that Jammu and Kashmir receives its rightful share of development resources and that future policies are based on reliable and comprehensive data.
