RAMNAGAR, Nov 5: Emphasising the importance of sustainable water management and community participation, the Nature Club and Science Club of Government Degree College (GDC), Ramnagar, jointly organised a seminar on water conservation under the Government of India’s Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative.

The seminar was organised under the guidance and patronage of Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas, who appreciated the efforts of both clubs in raising awareness about one of the most pressing environmental challenges. The programme was convened by Prof. Sumita Rao, Convenor, Nature Club, and Dr. Kewal Kumar, Convenor, Science Club.

Dr. Sonia Saini, Lecturer in Environmental Science (EVS), attended the seminar as the resource person. During her detailed presentation, she highlighted the objectives and significance of the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari initiative, explaining how community participation plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable water security.

She emphasised that water conservation had become an urgent necessity in view of growing climate challenges, declining groundwater levels and increasing pressure on available water resources. She stressed that collective efforts were essential to ensure the availability of water for future generations.

Discussing practical approaches to water conservation, Dr. Saini explained various modern and traditional techniques that could be adopted to minimise water wastage and improve water availability. She particularly highlighted the importance of implementing water conservation measures in rural areas to safeguard agricultural and domestic water requirements.

Calling upon students to take an active role in environmental protection, she encouraged them to become ambassadors of water conservation and spread awareness among local communities. She emphasised that public participation and individual responsibility could transform water conservation into a widespread people’s movement.

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 50 students, who actively engaged in interactive discussions and showed keen interest in adopting water conservation practices in their respective localities.

The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Sonia Raj, who expressed gratitude to the college administration, resource person, faculty members and participating students for their valuable contributions towards the successful organisation of the event.

The seminar reinforced the message that water conservation is a shared responsibility and that educational institutions can play an important role in developing environmental awareness and encouraging community-led sustainable practices.
