RAMNAGAR, Oct 17: The Department of Botany at Govt. Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar successfully organised a comprehensive educational botanical trip to the Krimachi-Mansar area for the Semester V students of Minor Botany. The experiential learning tour was conducted under the guidance and patronage of the Principal, Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas, who has consistently encouraged academic initiatives that bridge the gap between classroom concepts and field realities.
The student group was assisted and mentored by senior faculty members Dr. Ashni Devi (HOD, Botany) and Dr. Kewal Kumar (Associate Professor). The primary objective of the field visit was to acquaint the students with local plant diversity and train them in the precise identification of various species within their natural habitats.
During the field study, the faculty members conducted interactive, on-site sessions focusing extensively on the reproductive behaviour of plants. Students observed different types of flowers and examined their complex reproductive structures firsthand. A major highlight of the trip was the detailed discussion on pollination mechanisms across different plant families. By utilizing live plant specimens in the field, the professors demonstrated the intricate concepts of co-evolution, illustrating how specific plants and insects have evolved together over time to ensure mutual survival.
Principal Prof. Daljeet Singh Manhas commended the faculty for organizing the field trip and emphasized that such practical exposures are vital for fostering a deep scientific temperament and environmental awareness among young learners. The participating students expressed their gratitude to the college administration for providing a highly informative and enriching learning experience.
