UDHAMPUR, Oct 13: Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur, organised a Cyber Security Awareness-cum-Hygiene Programme to promote digital safety and responsible online behaviour among students and staff.

The programme was organised by the Department of Computer Applications in collaboration with the College Cyber Club to observe Cyber Security Awareness Month and as part of the three-month campaign under Vigilance Awareness Week 2026.

The initiative was conducted through multiple sessions for teaching staff, non-teaching staff and students, reaching approximately 1,600 participants. It aimed to equip the college community with essential knowledge and practical skills to identify, prevent and respond to cybercrime in an increasingly digital environment.

The sessions covered various cybercriminal activities, common online frauds, phishing attacks, identity theft, safe internet browsing, password security and the importance of maintaining proper cyber hygiene. Participants were encouraged to adopt safe digital practices, protect personal and confidential information, and exercise caution while accessing online platforms and digital services.

Special emphasis was laid on awareness of cybercrime helpline numbers and online reporting portals. Participants were informed about the appropriate procedures for reporting cyber incidents and seeking timely assistance in cases of suspected online fraud or other suspicious activities.

The awareness sessions were conducted by faculty members of the Department of Computer Applications, including Dr. Preeti Dubey, Head of the Department; Rachna Bharti, Assistant Professor; Shabilka, Lecturer; and Diksha Sharma, Lecturer. Through informative lectures and practical guidance, they encouraged participants to incorporate cybersecurity measures into their daily routines.

She acknowledged the relevance of educating students and staff about emerging cyber threats and encouraged continued efforts to create a safer digital environment.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting cyber awareness, digital responsibility and safe online practices across the campus.

The initiative reaffirmed the Department of Computer Applications and the College Cyber Club’s commitment to building an informed, vigilant and cyber-responsible college community.
