JAMMU, Aug 1: The newly constituted Gandhi Nagar Welfare Society (Regd.) on Saturday officially announced its formation during a press conference, declaring its commitment to working for the welfare and overall development of Gandhi Nagar. The society described itself as a non-political and non-profit organisation, emphasizing that its sole objective is to serve the residents and address civic issues affecting the locality.
Addressing the media, the office bearers said the society has been engaged in social service activities for the residents of Gandhi Nagar for several years. However, obtaining registration has now provided it with a legal identity, enabling it to raise public grievances more effectively before the Administration, Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Members of Parliament (MPs) and other concerned authorities.
The members said the society would function as a bridge between the residents and the Administration, ensuring that public concerns are heard and addressed in a timely manner. They added that the organisation has brought together the experience of senior citizens and the enthusiasm of the younger generation to work collectively for the development of the area and to promote positive community participation.
Highlighting its priorities, the society expressed concern over the delays in several developmental works being executed under the Smart City Mission in Gandhi Nagar. It stated that one of its primary issues would be seeking clarity regarding the future of the Gole Market Main Park, as residents continue to remain uncertain about the status of the project and the plans of the concerned department. The society assured that it would actively pursue all civic issues affecting the locality and strive to find practical solutions in coordination with the authorities.
The office bearers appealed to the people of Gandhi Nagar to extend their support and share constructive suggestions so that the society can effectively work for the welfare of the locality and future generations. They also announced that a membership drive would soon be launched to expand the organisation and encourage greater public participation. The society reiterated its vision of building a strong, united platform capable of ensuring that the genuine concerns of residents receive due attention.
Speaking on the occasion, President Bhushan Verma thanked the media and residents for their support and urged everyone to join hands in the mission of building a better Gandhi Nagar. Present at the press conference were Chairman Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Working President Ajay Mattoo, Senior Vice President Sardar R.P. Singh, General Secretary Arunesh Sharma, Vice Presidents Bobby Sharma and Dheeraj Sharma, Joint Secretary Nikhil Jerath, Treasurer Surinder Bhushan, Additional Secretary Tarun Vaid, Secretary Neelam Verma, Additional Joint Secretary Arvind Mishra, along with other General Body members, all of whom pledged to work sincerely for the welfare and development of Gandhi Nagar.
