KATHUA, Aug 6: The Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS), Kathua, on Thursday commenced the Inter-School Zonal Level Under-19 Boys Sports Competitions across different zones of the district under the directions of Director General, Youth Services & Sports, J&K, Anuradha Gupta.
The competitions were organised under the overall supervision of District Youth Services & Sports Officer (DYSSO), Kathua, Sunil Kumar. The Zone Basohli event was inaugurated by Principal, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Basohli, Major Singh, in the presence of Zonal Physical Education Officer (ZPEO) Tara Singh and field staff.
A total of 93 students participated enthusiastically in Kabaddi, Volleyball, Chess, Football and Badminton. The tournament aims to identify promising young sportspersons for district-level competitions while encouraging greater participation in sports.
The participants showcased remarkable skill, discipline, determination and sportsmanship, reflecting the true spirit of healthy competition.
As part of the Department’s commitment to the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, an awareness programme was also organised to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and motivate them to adopt sports, fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The students also took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to building a drug-free India.
DYSSO Kathua Sunil Kumar appreciated the efforts of teachers, officials, field staff and participants for the successful conduct of the competitions. He reiterated that the Department of Youth Services & Sports would continue organising such sporting and awareness initiatives to nurture talent, promote fitness and strengthen the nationwide movement towards a drug-free society.

Volleyball: Government Model Higher Secondary School, Basohli defeated Veer Savarkar Higher Secondary School, Basohli by 2-0 sets.
Badminton: Government Model Higher Secondary School, Basohli defeated Veer Savarkar Higher Secondary School by 2-0 sets.
Kabaddi: Government Model Higher Secondary School, Basohli defeated Higher Secondary School, Bhoond by 5 points.
Chess: Winner – Veer Savarkar Higher Secondary School, Basohli.
