JAMMU, Aug 28: A four-day Capacity-Building Course in Cricket Umpiring and Scoring, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA), concluded today with an impressive and well-attended closing ceremony at the JKCA Hostel Ground, Jammu.
The initiative is part of DYSS’s broader effort to professionalise officiating and match administration across the region and to strengthen the selection process for district- and state-level cricket events.
Twenty candidates — including Physical Education Masters (PEMs), Physical Education Teachers (PETs) and REKs — participated in the umpiring stream, while 12 candidates attended the scorer stream.
JKCA appointed experienced resource persons for the programme. BCCI panel scorer Ashwani Kumar led the Scorer Course, while JKCA panel umpire Udhay Veer Anthal conducted the Umpiring Course.
Rajesh Dhar (Lecturer in Physical Education) and Jagtar Singh (Physical Education Teacher) served as DYSS nodal officers for the Umpiring and Scorer Courses, respectively. Officials from the DYSS Project Management Unit (PMU), Pankaj Sasun (PEL) and Rahul Bakshi (PET), coordinated the programme effectively.
JKCA Officiating President Desh Rattan Dubey, Secretary Vivek Khajuria and a member of the Cricket Advisory Committee Meenu Singh Slathia interacted with participants and highlighted the programme’s importance.
The JKCA secretary noted that the training equipped local officials with up-to-date technical knowledge and practical skills to improve match management.
“These courses were organised to establish professionalism within the department, strengthen employees’ officiating capabilities, and ensure transparency and fairness in selections,” the programme nodal officers said.
The speakers praised Anuradha Gupta, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, J&K, for her leadership and initiative.
Over four days, participants received classroom instruction, on-field practical sessions, and assessments led by the resource persons.
Successful candidates will be better positioned to officiate and manage matches at district and state levels, contributing to stronger and more credible selection pathways.
A similar course will be held in Srinagar from August 31 to September 3, 2026.
