UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: The Department of Youth Services & Sports, District Udhampur, organised the District-Level Inter-Zonal Tournament for Under-19 Girls in Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Wushu and Kho-Kho at Subash Stadium, Udhampur, today.
Around 96 girls from seven zones of the district participated in the competitions, showcasing enthusiasm, discipline, confidence and sporting spirit. The tournament provided young athletes with an important platform to demonstrate their abilities and compete at the district level.
The tournament was conducted under the patronage and guidance of Anuradha Gupta, Director General, Youth Services & Sports, J&K UT, and under the overall supervision of Tarsem Singh, DYSSO Udhampur, who also graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the participants, Tarsem Singh congratulated the young athletes for their enthusiastic participation and encouraged them to maintain discipline, dedication and regular practice in their sporting journey. He highlighted the role of sports in developing confidence, physical fitness, leadership qualities and a positive outlook among young people.
He also called upon the athletes to actively participate in the upcoming National Sports Day celebrations, organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand, and urged them to make sports an integral part of their daily lives.
The Chief Guest emphasised that the Department is committed to providing greater opportunities to young sportspersons at the grassroots level and developing a strong sporting ecosystem through which talented athletes can progress from zonal and district-level competitions to divisional, UT, national and international platforms.

The successful conduct of the tournament reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to promoting sports at the grassroots level and providing young athletes with opportunities to identify, nurture and develop their sporting potential.
