Digging the foundation of 18th century temple shocking: DSS

JAMMU, Jun 6:  Shocked at the callous “Excavation” work below and under the foundation of the 18th century historical temple in the name of creating a “car Park” is a blatant attack on the heritage and religious sentiments of the local population, said the members of the DSS delegation after visiting the damaged temple site at Mubarak Mandi under the DSS President Col Karan Singh on 6th of June 2026.

It was reported that the work has been undertaken by the Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) as part of ‘restoration” work of the Mubarak Mandi Complex. Is it ‘restoration’ or ‘destruction’? asked an emotionally disturbed member.

Fortunately, the “Garbh Greh” (Sanctum Sanatorium) with the 18th century old idols of Maata Laxmi and Bhagwan GadaDhar are safe.

The tragic collapse of the ‘Mandapam’ took place soon after the devotees left after a community kitchen service, or else there could be big loss of lives and injuries.

The careless and unmindful bull dozing team obviously did not co-ordinate even with the PHE thus damaging the water pipes cutting off the water supply to nearby residential areas causing misery to local population who were seen wandering in search of drinking water in dismay.

The President DSS, Col Karan Singh urged the Lt Governor and the JSCL authorities to restore the Mandapam, Verandah and the collapsed wall immediately on the war footing.

The DSS further exhorts the J&K Dharamarth Trust, various religious organizations to stay alert and vigilant. A timely intervention could have possibly averted this deliberate damage caused to an historical religious place with whatever intentions behind.

DSS further request the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, not to take this incident lightly and order a proper investigation to find the cause and source of this unholy attack on the Dogra sentiments and take remedial measures to avoid any such reoccurrence. DSS also called upon the Dogra Hindu community to maintain a calm and let the Government agencies react to the sad mischievous act.

The DSS delegation was comprised of Col Dr Virendra k Sahi, VrC, Amanat  Ali Shah, Ravi Singh Slathia, Raje Jamwal , Dr Vidya Sagar Sharma and others.
